ROOKIES FIT RIGHT IN WITH RESURGENT COYOTES Dan Rosen writes on NHL.com, "Compared to some of his teammates, Daniel Carcillo is a grizzled veteran. That's the kind of reputation an extra 18 games of National Hockey League experience buys you in one corner of the Phoenix Coyotes dressing room. "To get the experience before this season is just a huge help," Carcillo, who recently went on injured reserve with a knee sprain, told NHL.com. "I knew in the summer what I had to work toward." Peter Mueller and Martin Hanzal didn't, but along with Carcillo and center Daniel Winnik, Phoenix's four rookie forwards are playing big minutes for what is arguably the League's most surprising team. Mueller is the most celebrated of the four." |
A SIT IN TIME A ‘GREAT' DECISION FOR MUELLER Dan Rosen writes on NHL.com, "This was hardly Wayne Gretzky's way of banishing Peter Mueller to the rafters of Jobing.com Arena for his poor play. Instead, when "The Great One" made the Phoenix Coyotes' rookie forward a healthy scratch back on Oct. 13, he was doing it with a goal in mind. Go upstairs. Watch and learn. Come back and put that knowledge to use. "He's 19-years-old and it's a real different pace," said Gretzky, now in his third season behind the Coyotes' bench. "I said; ‘It's not like we're benching you or disregarding you. We just want you to take a step back and sit up top to see how fast this game is.' Mission accomplished." |
MUELLER GOING HOME FOR FIRST TIME IN NHL Jim Gintonio writes in The Arizona Republic, "Rookie Peter Mueller has been experiencing a lot of firsts this season, and another awaits him Wednesday when he plays in front of a hometown crowd for the first time as an NHL player. The Coyotes take on the Minnesota Wild, Mueller's favorite team growing up, as Phoenix seeks its fifth consecutive victory. Minnesota is tied for the lead in the Northwest Division with 26 points. "Yeah, it's definitely exciting," said Mueller, whose hometown is Bloomington. "It's gonna be a great night for me and my family. I have a lot of friends and family there." " |
GRETZKY PLANS TO MOVE MUELLER BACK TO CENTER Jim Gintonio, writes in The Arizona Republic, "At some point, rookie Peter Mueller will move back to his natural position of center, but for the time being, the 19-year-old who had five goals in 19 games before Saturday's game against Toronto will stay at forward. "We put him on the wing to take a little pressure off of him defensively in our zone," coach Wayne Gretzky said. "But he's a natural center, and obviously he's going to be here a long time, so eventually I'll move him back to the middle." |
