KANE READY FOR MORE RESPONSIBILITY Chris Kuc writes in the Chicago Tribune, "His boyish appearance means he won't be mistaken for a grizzled veteran, but Patrick Kane isn't the same wide-eyed teen he was when he became the Blackhawks' first No. 1 overall draft selection in July. Forty-one games in his first NHL season have taught Kane plenty, including how to accurately assess his performance. "Overall, I thought I was above average," Kane, 19, said of his play during the first half of the season. "Not great, not bad. The start was a little slow, and then after that I seemed to pick it up for a bit. Then maybe the grind catches up to you and you go through a little bit of a slump. Now I kind of know what it takes to get through those times." " |
KANE'S HOCKEY DREAMS TURN REAL Bucky Gleason writes in The Buffalo News, "If there was anything more fitting than (Patrick) Kane scoring his first goal on (Dominik) Hasek, it was Kane not getting credit for an official goal. The winning goal in shootouts goes into the books as a team goal. Then again, credit always was slow to reach Kane. He was always too small, too soft, too something. Kane, who turned 19 last month, makes his first official homecoming Saturday against the Sabres in HSBC Arena having already met the NHL's criteria. He is expecting to know 500 people in the stands, which could be an understatement. The Sabres were planning a brief ceremony before the game. He was eager to get home. Yeah, things have worked out. Kane's arrival in Chicago could not have snapped into place any better." |
KANE RETURNS HOME TO BUFFALO Staff writers in the Chicago Tribune, "His name is written on a steel beam somewhere up in the rafters. He seemingly has walked through the gates as a fan countless times. Now Patrick Kane will take the ice Saturday night at HSBC Arena in Buffalo as one of his hometown's favorite sons, the leading scorer for the Blackhawks and the top-scoring rookie in the NHL. Kane, the top selection in the 2007 draft, will lead the Hawks against the Sabres in the town in which he grew up and returns to live during the summer." |
YOUNG STARS PASS ‘GREAT ONE'S' TEST Chris Kuc writes in the Chicago Tribune, "The Blackhawks and their talented rookie tandem of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews get "the Great One's" seal of approval. Phoenix coach Wayne Gretzky, whose Coyotes face the Hawks on Friday night at the United Center, is impressed with the way the Hawks have turned things around. "It's great to see for hockey," the Hall of Famer said Thursday. "This is one of the great franchises and great sports cities in North America. They got the No. 1 pick [and] they got the best player in the draft (Kane). He's a good hockey player. It's a positive that this franchise deserved. They went through some tough times." Gretzky has seen enough of Kane and Toews to heap accolades on the teenagers." |
UBER ROOKIE PATRICK KANE SEEMS UP TO THE TASK Melissa Isaacson writes in the Chicago Tribune, "It is an interactive wonderland worthy of a cover charge. It is a bedroom disguised as a virtual museum of hockey, perfectly ordered and brilliantly gleaming with trophies and plaques, jerseys and posters, a little boy's dream documented and photographed so thoroughly and displaying such obvious success you have to assume this particular boy has gone on to greatness. And you would be right. But it gets even better. It is history overlapping, Patrick Kane starring as Forrest Gump." |
