Letang scored back-to-back shootout-clinching goals on Dec. 6 in Calgary and Dec. 8 in Vancouver, becoming the first NHL defenseman or rookie to accomplish the feat. He is 4-for-5 in shootout attempts through Jan. 16; his most notable score was on New Year's Day against Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller in front of more than 71,000 fans with snow falling at Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium in the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic.

Letang played with Eastern Conference YoungStar teammate Marc Staal on Canada's gold medal winners at the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships, serving as captain in 2007.
