Pavel DATSYUK (daht-SOOK, PAH-vehl) Detroit Red Wings
Center. Shoots left. 5'11'', 197 lbs. Born, Sverdlovsk, Russia, July 20, 1978.
Detroit's 8th choice, 171st overall, in 1998 Entry Draft.
2007-08 Statistics as of Jan. 24/08: 50 GP – 17 G – 40 A – 57 Pts. – 6 PIM
Datsyuk was eligible for the NHL Entry Draft twice before Detroit selected him in the sixth round, 171st overall in 1998. "Hakan Andersson (Detroit scout), saw him a couple of times each year and said Pavel reminded him of a young Igor Larionov with his playmaking ability. We decided that you couldn't take away what he could accomplish with the puck – his ability to find teammates in almost any situation, the moves that make him so dangerous in the NHL now." – Detroit's Vice President/Assistant General Manager Jim Nill.

In his only All-Star appearance (2004), Datsyuk centered a line with Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames.

Datsyuk described his rookie All-Star Game in 2004 this way: "Yeah, a little nervous. Maybe a little bit. It was a lot of fun. A few chances for our line, maybe three – not enough."
