Phoenix Coyotes head coach Wayne Gretzky: "I just know as a fan watching the game, he is a young man who works hard every night and every shift. I don't think (the big contract) is going to change the way he plays and change his mindset or his attitude. I've seen guys that sign long-term contracts that aren't as hungry as they used to be. This guy, from his track record since he played as a kid, works hard every shift and every game."
Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren: "Mike Richards brings a lot of intangibles to our team. Some are seen on the ice, some are unseen – his presence, the way he carries himself. He's wearing [an 'A'] this year at a relatively young age... He's a good young leader."
Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Stevens: "He's a terrific penalty killer with terrific instincts. He's a big-game player ... a very humble individual. He's got great team values, and that's one of the reasons he is a permanent assistant captain ... to see a guy like Richie (named to the All-Star team), who like all of us had a frustrating year last year, he's come out and really been sensational all year. I think it's going to be a huge thrill for him. As his coach, we're proud of him."
Flyers teammate Joffrey Lupul: "I had no idea how much offensive skill he had. Everybody knows the work ethic he brings, but I was really surprised at the skill."
