Richards has enjoyed a breakout season in 2007-08, already having surpassed single-season scoring highs. His goal vs. Washington on Nov. 23 was his career-high 12th goal of the season, his assist vs. Montreal on Dec. 13 was his career-high 35th point of the season and his assist vs. Buffalo on Dec. 22 was his career-high 24th assist of the season.

Richards and Eastern Conference All-Star/Atlantic Division rival Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins were teammates on Canada's national junior teams in 2004 and 2005 and the World Championships entry in 2006.

Richards has enjoyed a breakout season in 2007-08, leading the Flyers in goals (20), assists (28), points (48), plus/minus (+12), shorthanded goals (four), game-winning goals (five) and shots (123) through 43 games. Richards posted a 34-point increase over his first 43 contests last season (from 4-10--14 in 2006-07 to 20-28--48 in 2007-08), the biggest such gain among all NHL players.

Richards was named a Flyers alternate captain on Oct. 1 and signed a 12-year contract extension with the club Dec. 13.
