On chasing Terry Sawchuk's shutout record: "Definitely, the shutout record says a lot. When you get these big numbers, you're doing something good. But, for me, it's all about winning. A shutout is a win. If you win, I think you'll get your share of shutouts."
On what keeps him motivated: "I think it's a matter of having fun playing the game. Every year is a different challenge for us. When you get older, it definitely becomes a bigger challenge. You see young guys, and you take a lot of pride in trying to show these young guys the way to having success. I'm just scared to miss it when I'm going to be done, so that's why I'm enjoying every second that the Devils or any NHL team will give me the opportunity to play. I think that's what keeps me motivated, just the fun of the game. I think hockey's a great game. It's not work for me."
On continuing to play: "I'm living a dream every single day. I travel, I get to an arena, I play hockey in front of thousands of people. For me, when it's going to stop being fun, it's going to be time for me to not play anymore. It's important to be serious, it's important to be prepared but I think it's still a hockey game, and the game is what I like about the sport." On being durable: "I think it says a lot about an athlete when you're able to be durable. And I think I'm fortunate enough to have the confidence of my organization to put me in there that much. I think that's the first thing. But after that, for me to be able to stay healthy and become successful also permits me to play that many games.
On his favorite goalie: "My favorite to watch was Ron Hextall. That's why I kind of imitate him, with playing the puck. I loved to see a big guy like that being a rough and tough goalie. When I was a junior, I was sticking guys, too. I changed a lot, because guys in the minors were older than me and I had to stop."
