Marian GABORIK (GAB-rihk, MAIR-ee-uhn) Minnesota Wild
GABORIK, DEMITRA HAVEN'T LOST THEIR MAGIC AS LINEMATES
John Shipley writes in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, "Remember last season when Pavol Demitra and Marian Gaborik were inseparable? Not only did they always play on the same line, they played as if telepathically connected. It hasn't happened much this season, for a variety of reasons, but the old magic was back for a moment in the first period of Thursday's 6-3 victory over Dallas...Their chemistry last season was almost preternatural; with Demitra on the left and Gaborik on the right, the pair was electric. The two hooked up to score on long lob passes out of the defensive zone, on two-on-one breakaways and on a patented give-and-go with Demitra behind the net."
TALES OF A RE-TOOLED OFF-SEASON TRAINING REGIMEN
Michael Russo writes in Minneapolis Star-Tribune, "This summer, Gaborik significantly altered his training regimen. Between vacations to Mexico and Croatia, Gaborik worked mostly on strengthening his legs. He followed the program of Joe Horrigan, an L.A.-based soft tissue specialist whom Gaborik credits for getting him healthy during each of the past two seasons. "I did a lot of speed work, a lot of running, a lot of working out and focusing on the lower body, doing core stuff and Olympic lifting," Gaborik said. In July, Wild trainer Mike Vogt traveled to Slovakia, where he spent two weeks treating Gaborik with the same deep-tissue massage program Horrigan has recommended and Gaborik has found helpful in the past."
