HEATLEY PUTS IN EXTRA WORK AT PRACTICE Allen Panzeri writes in the National Post, "After practice ended Sunday morning, Ottawa Senators assistant coach Greg Carvel gathered some pucks at one end of the ice and fed passes to Dany Heatley. In his customary spot in the right faceoff circle, Heatley one-timed each puck at the net. He connected, oh, about 80 per cent of the time. That's a lot better than he has been doing in games recently...no one is pushing the panic button. After all, Heatley is a proven goal scorer. |
HEATLEY'S GOT SCORER'S TOUCH Rob Brodie writes for the Ottawa Senators, "Maybe he's just got the gift. Perhaps it's even a little bit hereditary. But Dany Heatley admits it's more than just good genes that are responsible for the back-to-back 50-goal seasons he produced in his first two seasons with the Ottawa Senators. Still, Heatley figures he was probably destined to be a goal scorer. It's a family thing, you see." |
HEATLEY A TALENT SENS HAD TO KEEP Wayne Scanlan writes in the Ottawa Citizen, "For the Ottawa Senators, it doesn't get much better than opening the National Hockey League season with back-to-back wins against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Except this: securing superstar winger Dany Heatley for the next six years at $45 million US – the longest and richest contract in the 15-year history of the Senators. Despite the Senators' exhilarating trip to the Stanley Cup final in June and expectations of a return engagement next spring, Heatley's pending free agency hung over the franchise like a cloud during training camp and the pre-season. On cue, Heatley showed us why he's worth the money. In Game 1 Wednesday, he wrote his own script, forcing overtime with a late goal and scored the winner in overtime, a 4-3 decision. |
