Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff: "Brian's play warrants (being named captain for December). Game in and game out, whether we've asked him for 30 minutes or 20 minutes or any situation, he's been there. He's been in the system and with the team for a long team and his play warrants it ... he puts a tremendous amount of passion into the game. That's the one word I use a lot. Play with passion and Brian does."
Buffalo assistant coach James Patrick: "I've seen him mature from an 18-year-old coming in to the league. One thing I've said all along is that Brian has gotten better every year and from the start to finish of those years. A lot of it is attributed to his attitude and work ethic."
