Brian CAMPBELL (KAM-behl, BRIGH-uhn) Buffalo Sabres
CAMPBELL NAMED ALL-STAR RESERVE
John Vogl writes in the Buffalo News, "Sabremania helped put Brian Campbell into last year's All-Star Game. He made it on his own this year. That should help with name recognition. Campbell was the only Buffalo Sabre named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team Friday. The defenseman was selected as a reserve by the NHL one season after fans voted him into the game as a starter. He has become one of the league's more respected blue-liners with four goals and 24 assists."
DECISION IN JUNIOR PRODUCES AN INSPIRING NHL CAREER
Dan Rosen writes on NHL.com, "Brian Campbell couldn't go home. Not yet, at least. It was 1995 and he was a 16-year-old draft pick for the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67s who needed a confidence pick-me-up in the worst way. He didn't think he was big enough, strong enough, or good enough to play major junior hockey. "What saved us is his mom and dad saying; ‘Try it out, and if you don't like it you can always come home,' " longtime 67s coach Brian Kilrea said. Campbell never did go home, and 12 years later, the decision to give it the old college try may be his best ever as he's now an All-Star defenseman with the Buffalo Sabres."
CAMPBELL KNOWS THAT ‘IT' IS IN HIM
Bucky Gleason writes in the Buffalo News. "Brian Campbell's father is an elementary school principal, so it's safe to assume the Buffalo Sabres defenseman grew up understanding the value of good teaching and strong leadership. If that wasn't enough, he paid close attention to his veteran teammates during his first few years in the NHL."
