Kopitar is a hockey pioneer as the NHL's first Slovenian-born player.
He left home at 15 and moved to Sweden for stronger competition in pursuit of his dream of playing in the NHL.
The Kings' first-round pick in 2005, Kopitar in 2006-07 became the first Kings rookie in 20 years to tally 60 or more points and is leading the club in scoring as a 20-year-old in his sophomore campaign of 2007-08.
Kopitar made an immediate impact in the NHL, tallying a pair of goals in his League debut and three assists in the following contest. He went on to record one of the top rookie seasons in Kings history in 2006-07, finishing the season third among NHL rookies and on the Kings in scoring with 61 points (20 goals, 41 assists) in 72 games. He was the only rookie forward to average over 20 minutes of ice time per game.
He became the first Kings rookie to reach 60 points in a season since Luc Robitaille notched a franchise-record 84 points in 1986-87.
